Chaihu Shugan Pills – Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula
Origin: Recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
Functions: Soothes the liver, regulates qi, relieves bloating, and alleviates pain.
Indications: Liver qi stagnation, chest and flank fullness, indigestion, vomiting of sour fluid. Clinically used for abdominal distension, vomiting, and flank pain.

Chai Hu (Bupleurum) 75g, Qing Pi (Fried Green Tangerine Peel) 50g, Chen Pi (Dried Tangerine Peel) 50g, Fang Feng (Siler Root) 50g, Mu Xiang (Costus Root) 25g, Zhi Ke (Fried Bitter Orange) 50g, Wu Yao (Lindera Root) 50g, Xiang Fu (Vinegar-processed Cyperus) 75g, Ban Xia (Pinellia) 75g, Fu Ling (Poria) 100g, Jie Geng (Platycodon Root) 50g, Hou Po (Ginger-processed Magnolia Bark) 50g, Zi Su Geng (Perilla Stem) 75g, Dou Kou (Amomum) 40g, Gan Cao (Licorice) 50g, Shan Zha (Fried Hawthorn) 50g, Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) 50g, Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) 50g, Bo He (Mint) 50g, Bing Lang (Fried Areca) 75g, Liu Shen Qu (Fried Medicinal Ferment) 50g, Da Huang (Wine-fried Rhubarb) 50g, Bai Shao (Wine-fried White Peony) 50g, San Leng (Vinegar-processed Sparganium) 50g, E Zhu (Curcuma) 50g
Usage and Dosage:
Oral administration: 1 pill per dose, twice daily, with warm water.
Functions:
Soothes liver qi, regulates qi, relieves bloating, and alleviates pain.

Liver qi stagnation, chest and flank fullness, indigestion, vomiting of sour fluid.
Formula Explanation:

Chai Hu, Qing Pi, Chen Pi, Fang Feng, Xiang Fu, Zhi Ke, Mu Xiang, Wu Yao: Soothes liver qi, relieves bloating, alleviates pain.

Ban Xia, Fu Ling, Jie Geng, Hou Po, Zi Su Geng, Dou Kou, Gan Cao: Strengthens the spleen, harmonizes the middle, regulates qi, relieves bloating.

Shan Zha, Bing Lang, Liu Shen Qu, Da Huang: Promotes digestion, reduces food stagnation, relieves bloating.

Bai Shao, Dang Gui: Nourish blood and soften the liver.

San Leng, E Zhu: Invigorate blood, remove stasis, and promote qi flow.

Huang Qin, Bo He: Clear stagnation-induced heat. Prolonged liver qi stagnation may transform into heat; Huang Qin (bitter and cold) clears heat, Bo He (pungent and cool) releases stagnation.
Together, these herbs work synergistically to soothe liver qi, regulate qi, relieve bloating, and alleviate pain.
Clinical Application:
Commonly used for abdominal distension, vomiting, and flank pain.
Precautions:

This formula is specifically for disorders caused by liver qi stagnation. It is not suitable for conditions caused by liver-gallbladder damp-heat, gastrointestinal food stagnation, or spleen-stomach deficiency-cold.

Contains qi-regulating and blood-invigorating herbs that may affect fetal health; use with caution during pregnancy.

During treatment, consume light and easily digestible foods; avoid spicy and greasy foods to prevent dampness and disruption of qi.

The condition may worsen due to emotional stress or overexertion; maintain a calm and relaxed mood during medication.
柴胡舒肝丸,中医方剂名。出自《中国药典》。具有舒肝理气,消胀止痛之功效。主治肝气不舒,胸胁痞闷,食滞不消,呕吐酸水。临床常用于痞证,呕吐,胁痛。
组成
柴胡75g,青皮(炒)50g,陈皮50g,防风50g,木香25g,枳壳(炒)50g,乌药50g,香附(醋制)75g,姜半夏75g,茯苓100g,桔梗50g,厚朴(姜制)50g,紫苏梗75g,豆蔻40g,甘草50g,山楂(炒)50g,当归50g,黄芩50g,薄荷50g,槟榔(炒)75g,六神曲(炒)50g,大黄(酒炒)50g,白芍(酒炒)50g,三棱(醋制)50g,莪术(制)50g。
用法用量
口服,一次1丸,一日2次,温开水送下。
功用
舒肝理气,消胀止痛。
主治

方义
方中柴胡、青皮、陈皮、防风、香附、枳壳、木香、乌药合用,以舒肝理气,消胀止痛。半夏、茯苓、桔梗、厚朴、紫苏梗、豆蔻、甘草合用,以健脾调中,行气消胀。山楂、槟榔、六神曲、大黄合用,以消食导滞,化积消胀。白芍、当归养血和血,以柔肝体;气滞邪结则血瘀,故以三棱、莪术行气活血化瘀。黄芩、薄荷组成,以清解郁热。气郁日久则化热,故以黄芩苦寒清热、薄荷辛凉解郁以解之。诸药合用,共奏舒肝理气,消胀止痛之功。
运用
临床常用于痞证,呕吐,胁痛。
使用注意
1、本品为肝气不舒所致的痞证、呕吐、胁痛而设,故不适用于由肝胆湿热,食滞胃肠,脾胃虚寒等原因所引起的上述病证。
2、本品含有行气、破血之品,有碍胎气,孕妇慎用。
3、服药期间饮食宜用清淡易消化之品,忌食辛辣油腻,以免助湿伤脾,有碍气机。
4、本方所针对的病证每因情志和(或)劳累而发作或加重,故服药期间切忌郁闷、恼怒,应保持心情舒畅。
