Yunnan Baiyao is a traditional Chinese patent medicine from Yunnan, first developed by folk doctor Qu Huanzhang in 1902, originally named “Qu Huanzhang Baibao Dan.” It is highly effective for traumatic injuries and bleeding. • Hemostatic Effects: It is most recognized for stopping bleeding due to its multiple active ingredients and complex pharmacological actions. It can shorten bleeding time and coagulation time, increase prothrombin content, and promote platelet aggregation and release. • Anti-inflammatory and Circulation Improvement: Yunnan Baiyao can inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators, improve microcirculation, and regulate vascular permeability. It effectively reduces local redness, swelling, heat, and pain in trauma, promotes blood circulation, and disperses stasis.

• Antibacterial Effect: It helps prevent infection in wounds.

• Immune System Support: It may promote adrenal cortex hormone secretion and assist in treating immune-related conditions.

Usage Instructions

1. Trauma and Bleeding:

   • For knife, gun, or traumatic injuries with bleeding, take with warm water; for bruises and swelling without bleeding, take with warm yellow wine.

   • Dose: 0.25–0.5 g per administration, 4 times daily.

   • For severe trauma, take one “insurance seed” with wine first, then the powder. Mild injuries or other conditions may omit the “insurance seed.” For unconscious patients, administration via enema is possible.

2. Early-stage Inflammatory Sores:

   • Take orally (0.25 g powder or 1 capsule) and apply a small amount externally. Avoid external use once pus has formed.

3. Gynecological Bleeding:

   • Conditions such as dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, irregular menstruation, excessive menstruation, postpartum blood stasis: 0.25–0.5 g with warm yellow wine, 4 times daily. For heavy menstrual bleeding, take with warm water.

4. Other Uses:

   • Chronic Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer Bleeding: 0.25 g, 4 times daily with warm water.

   • Recurrent Oral Ulcers: Apply powder directly to ulcers 2–3 times daily; healing in ~3 days.

   • Autumn Diarrhea: 1 g powder mixed with 60–70% alcohol, applied to the navel and secured with medicated plaster; re-moisten every 6–8 hours; change every 1–2 days for 3–4 applications. Ensure fluid replacement and antipyretics if necessary.

   • Shingles and Costochondritis: Mix with 75% alcohol or liquor to paste; apply externally 3–5 times daily.

   • Frostbite: Sprinkle powder on ulcerated areas, cover with sterile gauze; for non-ulcerated areas, apply mixed with alcohol and keep warm. Usually effective in 2–3 applications.

Precautions and Contraindications

1. Do not exceed 0.5 g per dose or 4 g per day. Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, pale complexion, cold extremities, or even acute renal failure. Avoid in cases of allergy, prior toxicity, or severe arrhythmia.

2. Avoid fava beans, fish, acidic, cold, or raw foods during treatment.

3. Pregnant women should not use.

4. If abdominal discomfort, heartburn, or nausea occurs, reduce dose or discontinue.

5. Yunnan Baiyao should be used under guidance for trauma, bleeding, or other medical conditions.

        云南白药，是云南的中成药，由云南民间医生曲焕章于1902年研制成功，原名“曲焕章百宝丹”。对跌打损伤、创伤出血有很好的疗效。云南白药由中药材制成，具有化瘀止血、活血止痛、解毒消肿之功效。

主要作用
        云南白药又称“曲焕章百宝丹”，俗称“白药”，是我国的活血化瘀中成药，由云南著名草药医曲焕章创制。
        云南白药为世人所知得多是止血的功效，由于它含有多种活性成分，药理作用复杂，除止血之外还有多种用途。
        云南白药对于多种出血性疾病都有明显的疗效，可以加速止血、缩短病程。有研究表明，这方面的药理作用主要是缩短出血时间和凝血时间，云南白药能使凝血酶原时间缩短，增加凝血酶原含量，并能诱导血小板的聚集和释放。止血方面也应用十分广泛，对于创伤出血、消化道出血、呼吸道出血、出血性脑病，妇科、小儿科、五官科出血性疾病都有很好的治疗效果。
        云南白药对炎症物质的释放有抑制作用，对于改善微循环、改变血管通透性等方面都有效用。在治疗创伤中，能有效的治疗局部的红肿热痛，活血化瘀，抑制肿胀。此外云南白药还有抑菌的作用，能够防止创伤的感染。
         云南白药可以促进肾上腺皮质激素的分泌，对于免疫系统疾病有治疗作用。

注意事项
（1）云南白药主要用于治疗刀枪、创伤出血，吐血，衄血，咳血。对刀枪跌打诸伤，无论轻重，出血者温开水送服；瘀血肿痛及未出血者，温黄酒送服。每次用量0.25～0．5克，每日4次。跌打损伤重者，应先取“保险子”一粒酒送服，再服药粉。轻伤及其他病症患者可不必服用“保险子”。神志不清者可灌肠给药。

（2）治疗红肿毒疮初起，除内服散剂0.25克或胶囊1粒外，尚可另取药粉适量调匀外敷。己化脓者，则不宜外敷。

（3）妇科一切血症，如痛经、闭经、月经不调、经血过多、红崩、血带、产后瘀血等，每次0．25～0．5克，温黄酒送服，每日4次。经血过多和红崩者宜温开水送服。

（4）云南白药含有多种活性成分，药理作用广泛。除了用于治疗刀、枪、创伤出血及跌打损伤、血肿疼痛等伤科疾患外，还可用于治疗如下疾病：①慢性胃炎和消化性溃疡出血，每次0．25克，每日4次，温开水送服。②复发性口腔溃疡，用白药粉吹敷溃疡面，每日2～3次，3天溃疡面可愈合。③秋季腹泻，用白药1克，加60%～70%酒精调成糊状，敷于脐窝，并用伤湿膏固定，每隔6～8小时将脐部药物加酒精湿润，每1～2天换药1次，连用3～4次。有脱水、酸中毒、电解质紊乱者给予补液，体温超过39摄氏度的应服退热药。④治疗带状疱疹和肋软骨炎，用75%酒精或白酒调成糊状外敷患处，每日3～5次。⑤治疗冻疮，将白药粉撒在冻疮溃疡处，再用消毒纱布包扎，未溃疡者用白酒调敷并注意保温，用药2～3次可愈。

（5）不可过量或长期服用云南白药。一次量不得超过0．5克，每日大剂量不应超过4克。大剂量服用会出现恶心呕吐、面色苍白、四肢厥冷等反应，严重者可致急性肾功能衰竭。对本品有中毒、过敏史或伴严重心律失常者忌服。

（6）服药期间，忌食蚕豆、鱼类和酸、冷等食物。孕妇忌服。服用本品后若出现上腹不适，灼心、恶心等现象，应立即减量或停药。
